There are many families in the world who are known as Sadaat. The Sadaat are families who are believed to be, and in most cases authenticated, as the descendants of Prophet Muhammed (SAW). These families are spread throughout the world, migrating during the Ummayad and Abbasid Caliphate, from the Hejaz, Arabia.
One such family’s paternal line had migrated to the Indian Subcontinent, to a small village called Karari which at present is in the modern state of Uttar Pradesh, India. This Sadaat, known as the Karari Rizvi, are supposedly the paternal descendants of Imam Ali (A.S), the cousin and son in law of Prophet Muhammed (SAW). The paternal descent goes as such:
Syed Hissamuddin was the forefather of the Karari Rizvi. He had founded the village of Karari in 1398 CE. He had three children, Syed Ahmed, Syed Fakhruddin and Syed Nasrullah. Syed Ahmed had no children. And so, the Karari Rizvi are from the paternal lines of Syed Fakhruddin and Syed Nasrullah. Their descendants stayed in the village of Karari exclusively until the partition of the Indian Subcontinent in 1947 where some members had migrated to Pakistan and eventually to other parts of the world. To prove their family’s lineage, the FTDNA Big Y700 was used to determine if indeed these Karari Rizvi descend from their common ancestor Syed Hissamuddin. Three Big Y700 tests were used for three members of the family. Two from the descendants of Syed Fakhruddin and one from Syed Nasrullah. Because Syed Ahmed had no descendants, we would have to rely on the Y-DNA test results from the descendants of his two brothers. The Big Y700 had shown that indeed the descendants of Syed Fakhruddin matched the descendant of Syed Nasrullah at the J-MF187340 Y-Haplogroup. When compared with the Karari Rizvi family tree, the J-MF187340 Y-Haplogroup represents Syed Hisammudin as he is the most recent common ancestor (TMRCA) of the descendants of Syed Fakhruddin and Syed Nasrullah.
The Y-Haplogroup J-MF187340 is approximately 1450 CE as per FTDNA. This is different from the Karari Rizvi family tree which states Syed Hissamuddin had migrated to the area that became Karari village in 1398 CE. This means Syed Hissamuddin was born much earlier than 1450 CE. As the 1450 CE date is an approximation and only three testers have tested under J-MF187340, this approximate date may shift to an earlier more refined date in the future when more Karari Rizvi test. As well, J-FTB661 represents Syed Muhammed Musa who in the family tree is the ancestor of the two Karari Rizvi from Syed Fakhruddin’s line through his two sons Syed Nadir Ali and Syed Qadir Ali.
The Y-Haplogroups and their parallels to the names in the Karari Rizvi family tree clearly shows the consistency between Y-DNA and paternal lineage of the Karari Rizvi. With this the Karari Rizvi can confidently say they descend from their common ancestor Syed Hissamuddin. In the future more Karari Rizvi will test and refine the family’s line. The eventual goal will be to verify the Y-Haplogroups and names between their ancestor Imam Ali (A.S) and Syed Hissamuddin.
